Office of the Mayor

Operating

Office of the Mayor

What we do

In this department, we support the Mayor in executing his duties and role as Head of Council and his engagement with the local community.

We implement policies and programs that attract businesses and employees to Guelph and leverage partnerships with other levels of government and private-sector stakeholders to support and grow Guelph’s thriving local economy.

We invest in green infrastructure and advocate for intergovernmental collaboration to advance climate-conscious policies that will help reduce Guelph’s carbon footprint, and support policies and programs that allow the City to invest in affordable, sustainable transportation options for all residents.

We work to improve communication and service delivery between various City departments and the community we serve, develop strategic partnerships with local stakeholders, businesses and organizations, and contribute to a fiscally-responsible multi-year budgeting and planning process.

We’re always looking to develop new assets that respond to Guelph’s growing and changing needs and support the development of these assets through advocacy and policy work. We work alongside provincial and federal government partners and community organizations to build a stronger, safer and more resilient city.

Why we do it

The key focus areas for the Mayor’s Office include effective and responsible governance, as well as authentic community engagement. These areas of focus enable the Mayor, as Head of Council, to run a trusted local government that reflects our community’s values and works in alignment with the five pillars of the Strategic Plan.
