Affordable Housing

What we do

The housing continuum encompasses all types of housing in the community, of which, the City is responsible for ensuring adequate availability of affordable housing. The County of Wellington is the Consolidated Municipal Services Manager (CMSM) for the delivery of Social Services which includes Social Housing as authorized by the Services Improvement Act and the Social Assistance Reform Act.

The City has an approved Affordable Housing Strategy and an associated Affordable Housing Financial Incentive Program that identifies the eligibility priorities for financial assistance for the development of affordable housing units in the city.

Why we do it

Providing financial incentives to spur the development of affordable housing units in the city contributes to the goals of the Building our Future priority. This program contributes to increasing the availability of housing which in turn has proven to be the basis for building strong, safe and healthy communities that foster resilience in the people who live here.
