Updated: Notice of Council Vacancy Proceedings

Guelph, Ont., May 28, 2025 – Councillor Dominique O’Rourke has successfully run for election as the Guelph area riding Member of Parliament and has resigned as a Ward 6 Councillor, resulting in a Council vacancy.    Update Following the Council meeting on May 27 – with a recommendation from City Clerk’s staff to Council, the Ward 6 vacancy will be filled through an open call for nominations and appointment by Council vote.  Nominations will open June 9 and close July 7th at 4 p.m.   The meeting to appoint will take place on July 23rd, where each candidate will be given up to 5 minutes to address Council, followed by a question period.  With the conclusion of candidate addresses, Council will place their votes and the recipient with greater… Continue reading Updated: Notice of Council Vacancy Proceedings

Guelph releases top priorities for the federal election

Guelph, Ont., March 24, 2025 – As part of the City of Guelph’s “Future in Focus: Building Guelph Together” advocacy campaign, and in advance of the of the upcoming federal election on April 28, the City is putting forward its priorities for attention and support for the next federal government.  As economic uncertainty threatens worker and business security, we continue to face broad systemic issues including rising housing prices, aging infrastructure, and municipal funding shortfalls. In response to these growing concerns, the City is prioritizing economic resiliency and collaborative growth. Guelph releases top priorities for the provincial election

Guelph, Ont., January 29, 2025 – In advance of the Provincial election on February 27, 2025, the City of Guelph is launching an advocacy campaign titled “Future in Focus: Building Guelph Together.” As part of this campaign, the City is putting forward its priorities for provincial attention and support during the next government’s mandate. The City of Guelph is facing unprecedented and systemic challenges that require collaboration across governments to find solutions. In 2024, one in three residents reported that housing availability and affordable housing are the most important issues facing Guelph, followed closely by social issues and community wellbeing.
