On March 25, 2025 as per Council direction the Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee were merged to into the Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee.

Hearings

Committee of Adjustment meets the 2nd Thursday and 4th Thursday (if necessary) at City Hall, 1 Carden Street, Guelph.

About the committee

The Committee of Adjustment hears applications under Section 45 of the Planning Act and Section 53 of the Planning Act R.S.O. 1990 c.P13, as amended. The Committee of Adjustment is an independent body appointed by Guelph City Council. There are two major types of applications to the Committee of Adjustment: Applications for consent to create new lots or adjust boundaries and applications for minor variances to the municipal Zoning Bylaw requirements or for permission to extend land uses that have existed prior to the passing of the current bylaw.

Vacancies, how to apply, and current committee membership

Information regarding vacancies, how-to apply and current committee membership is available on the boards and committees page.

The Property Standards Committee hears appeals by property owners or their agents who have received an Order Of The Property Standards Officer from the City.

The Property Standards Committee may confirm the Property Standards Order or modify or quash the Order or extend the time for complying with the Order provided that in the opinion of the Committee, the general intent and purpose of the Property Standards By-Law are maintained.

Meetings are held on an as required basis, they are scheduled once an appeal is received. The Committee must hold a hearing if an owner or occupant upon whom an Order has been served is not satisfied with the terms and conditions of the Order.
