About Creature Currents
Over the course of four Saturdays in the summer of 2016, Guelph artist Glynis Logue invited community members to contribute to a collaborative work of art outside of the Guelph Farmers’ Market as part of the City of Guelph’s RBC Market Mornings program. The project entitled, “Creature Currents,” invited community members to choose from a selection of printed images that depict nature and the various airborne and wind propelled insects that inhabit it. Participants were shown how to transfer these images onto pieces of reclaimed local ash wood sourced locally from the City’s Parks Operations and Forestry division and repurposed aluminum. These individual pieces were then assembled by the artist into a kinetic public art installation that is designed to be set into motion by passersby and the wind. The interactive artwork represents a creative repurposing of some of the ash wood that the City has cut down due to the invasion of the destructive emerald ash borer.
The interactive installation was on display at the corner of Gordon and Wilson Streets next to the entrance to the Farmers’ Market until fall of 2017.
