About the centre

The West End Community Centre is a fully accessible, multi-purpose community centre that has a full range of facilities including an aquatic facility, a twin-pad arena, a gymnasium and community meeting rooms. There is also a library to complement the facility and provide a variety of additional services to users and customers.

Features

The West End Community Centre features double ice pads, bookable meeting rooms, a leisure pool, lap pool, therapy pool, sauna and gym. The centre also features the West End branch of the Guelph Public Library, which is also open seven days a week.

Aquatic centre

The Aquatic Centre has three individual pools, change rooms, and a sauna. All three pools have an accessible chair lift.

  • The Lap Pool (2,252.6 square feet) is a 25-metre pool with 4 lanes. Temperature: 82-84 degrees Fahrenheit (28-29° Celsius).
  • The Therapy Pool (516 square feet) is designed with a variety of large steps in order to allow people to enter at a variety of water depths. This pool is available for private rentals for physiotherapy purposes and is our warmest pool. Temperature: 90-94 degrees Fahrenheit (32-34° Celsius).
  • The Leisure Pool (1, 835.30 square feet.) includes a large water slide, water umbrella and bubble bench. The entry areas have large wide steps for easy access. Temperature: 87-89 degrees Fahrenheit (31-32° Celsius).

Sauna

Hours of operation:

  • Open during all recreation and fitness swims
  • Not available during learn to swim, pool rentals or women’s only swim

Age Restrictions:

  • 16 years of age or older

Arena

West End Community Centre’s twin pad arena consists of two NHL size hockey rinks. The seating areas can hold about 180 people. Rink 1 can also be viewed from the heated hallway; both rinks can be viewed from upstairs.

We have 10 change rooms, six with shared washroom and showers, and four with their own facilities. Four of the changerooms are fully accessible with a rubberized floor surface. There are also two referee change rooms located at the back of the arena in order to separate referees and players. An Automatic External Defibrillator Unit (AED) is located near the west entrance to the arena.

If you’re visiting West End Community Centre to use the rinks, please park at the back of the building.

Fitness area

West End Community Centre’s accessible fitness area features amenities like:

  • Air-conditioning
  • Free weights
  • Weight machines
  • Cardio equipment
  • Training equipment

The Fitness Area is only available to those 18 years of age or older.

Programming and schedules

West End Community Centre offers regular public swimming, skating and drop-in programs.

Additionally, The City of Guelph offers a variety of registered recreation programs and drop in recreation programs for individuals of all abilities, including programs for adults 55+ and seniors. Guelph Recreation holds registration days four times a year: winter, spring/summer, fall and summer camp registration. Room rentals

Community Room #2

Located near the library, Community Room #2 is a 834.23 square foot room with a tile floor, a counter along one wall and a sink with running water. There is a pull-down screen available for use. This room has access to an outside courtyard (weather permitting). This room holds 60 people maximum.

Lions Lair Community Room

Lions Lair Community Room is a 911.94 square foot room with a a tiled floor, a storage area and a separate entrance to the main parking lot. There is a pull-down screen available for use. It holds 60 people maximum and is ideal for formal meetings.
