City’s recycling facility employees released from hospital

Guelph Fire Department deems facility safe to reopen Guelph, ON, August 12 – Eight City employees have been released from Guelph General Hospital following exposure to an unknown substance on one of the sorting lines at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) this morning. The hospital assessed symptoms including irritated eyes, headache and difficulty breathing. After a thorough investigation, the Guelph Fire Department’s hazardous material team was unable to find or identify any traces of the unknown substance. The team tested and monitored the air quality at the recycling facility, and earlier this afternoon confirmed it is safe to reopen. The MRF has resumed regular recycling operations with approval from the Ministry of Labour following its site investigation.
