Guelph Transit and Fleet Services Facility

About this project

The City is looking to develop and build new facilities to support Guelph Transit and Fleet Services over the next 25 plus years so they work efficiently and effectively and satisfy service delivery requirements for a growing city.

The proposed Guelph Transit and Fleet Services facility will store, charge and maintain the City’s electric buses and other fleet vehicles. The facility will meet or exceed current building standards, will strive towards net zero carbon building design standards, and will reduce energy consumption and expenses, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Building from the vision of the Guelph Innovation District Secondary Plan, the new developments in this area will protect, maintain, and enhance the valuable natural and cultural heritage resources surrounding the facility and feature sustainable buildings and infrastructure, is support of the City’s strategic plan.

The scope for the project has been revised to complete the required background technical studies; develop a site plan based on this work, obtain site plan approval; and a detailed facility design.

  • Field work results have been compiled to define site development constraints.
  • Through iterative design, the preliminary site layout has been formed considering impacts to site constraints, servicing and program requirements.
  • The preliminary site layout and supporting studies have been compiled as part of the site plan application process.
  • Facility design services for the Guelph Transit and Fleet Services facility have started. .
  • In addition to the Guelph Transit and Fleet Services Facility design work, support for electric transit pilot work continues. The first installation phase of the pilot-scale electric bus charging equipment are powering the first pilot electric buses that have been put into service.
