Guelph, Ont., September 1, 2026 – Starting on September 28, Speedvale Avenue East at the Speed River Bridge will be closed. There will be no eastbound or westbound through traffic permitted through the construction zone for about four to six weeks, weather permitting. Businesses will remain open on both sides of the bridge.
This work is part of Phase 2 of the multi-year Speedvale Avenue Corridor Improvement. During this phase, we will be replacing the current bridge with a four-lane bridge that will provide two vehicle lanes in each direction and multiuse paths in both directions. We are also upgrading the underground infrastructure to include sanitary and storm sewer pipes and watermains and re-aligning the Speed River Trail and adding a trail underpass for future connections.
These improvements will support our growing population and make it easier for you to travel along Speedvale Avenue East by walking, cycling, driving, or taking transit.
