Door to door water testing and sales scams
City employees do not sell water products door–to–door
The City of Guelph and Guelph Police Services sometimes receive reports sales people claiming to represent the City going door-to-door offering water testing, filters, treatment systems or heaters.
You do not have to let sales representatives into your home.
If someone comes to your home claiming to represent the City, you can ask to see their identification. You can also call us to verify their credentials or tell us about your experience 519-837-5627.
If you are suspicious of sales people coming to your door, or if a sales person refuses to leave when asked, please call Guelph Police Services 519-824-1212 extension 0.
Your rights under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act
If you have questions or concerns about the supplier of any water system, purchased or rented, call the Ministry of Consumer Services at 1-800-889-9768 or email [email protected].
