About the Project
The City-Wide Parking Strategy is a long-term plan to guide how parking is managed on Guelph’s infrastructure across the city. This includes on-street parking, Downtown parking, parkades (also called parking structures, or parking garages) and other public parking lots.
The purpose of the strategy is to create a clear and consistent approach to parking infrastructure, policies and operations that supports our growing community. Parking is part of the transportation system. This strategy will align with the Transportation Master Plan goals to support the City’s mode share targets, and ensure an efficient, equitable and sustainable transportation system that is easy-to-use, reliable and plans for the changes of tomorrow, while delivering great service today.
As part of building a sustainable and resilient transportation system, the strategy will look at current and future parking needs, including how parking is used and where demand is changing. The strategy will also review what parking costs, including maintenance, operations and future improvements, and how revenues can support those costs.
Recent changes to provincial regulations will influence parking availability and demand, especially in Downtown Guelph. This strategy will evaluate these changes and provide recommendations on how to respond effectively Downtown and across the city.
Project Timeline
The project began in 2026 and will continue through 2027. The final report is expected to be presented to Council in 2027.
