If you’re unable to vote in person, there are several alternative ways to cast your ballot. Eligible electors can vote by mail, request a vote from home appointment, or appoint a voting proxy.
Vote by Mail
How It Works
Vote by Mail kits can be requested between September 1, 2026, and October 9, 2026 through Vote by Mail Request · Voter Registration Portal.
- To request a Vote by Mail kit, you will be required to upload an acceptable piece of ID. Completed Vote by Mail kits must be received by election officials no later than 8 p.m. on October 26, 2026.
- Please note for qualifying ID, that an Ontario Healthcard can only be accepted if the address is visible on the identification.
Voters are encouraged to mail their completed Vote by Mail kits by October 15, 2026. After this date, completed kits should be returned to ServiceGuelph during regular business hours or deposited in the secure drop box located to the right of the main entrance at City Hall.
Voters may also return their completed kits at an Advance Voting location between October 10 and 18. It is the elector’s responsibility to ensure that their completed Vote by Mail kit is received by the deadline. Instructions on how to return your kit are included in the package.
Are You Eligible?
To vote by mail, you must:
- Be on the voters’ list; or
- Be eligible to add yourself to the voters’ list or update your voter information and provide a copy of acceptable identification.
Any additions or updates to voter information must be completed before requesting a Vote by Mail kit.
Vote From Home
How It Works
Vote from Home appointments can be requested between September 1 and October 9, 2026 by:
- Calling 519-837-5625; or
- Emailing [email protected].
Appointment requests and eligibility will be reviewed by election officials. Eligible electors will be contacted to schedule a Vote from Home appointment. These appointments will be conducted during business hours.
Are You Eligibile?
Only the elector or a person authorized by the elector may request a Vote from Home appointment.
To be eligible to participate in the Vote from Home program, an elector must:
- Be on the voters’ list or have applied to be added to the voters’ list when requesting an appointment;
- Confirm they are unable to vote by mail or attend a voting location in person without unreasonable difficulty due to an injury, illness, or disability; and
- Provide acceptable identification.
Vote by Proxy
How It Works
If you are unable to vote on any available voting day or by an alternative voting method, you may appoint another eligible City of Guelph elector to vote on your behalf using a voting proxy.
Download and complete 2 copies of the Province of Ontario’s Appointment for Voting Proxy (Form 3).
Appointment of a Proxy
- The person you appoint must be eligible to vote in the City of Guelph;
- The completed proxy form must be certified by the City Clerk or designate; and
- A person may appoint only one voting proxy to vote on their behalf.
Proxy Certification
- Proxy certification appointments can be requested beginning August 25, 2026, by:
- Calling 519-837-5625; or
- Emailing [email protected].
The proxy form must be certified by the City Clerk or designate before the proxy can vote on behalf of another elector. Forms will not be certified on Election Day.
Voting as a Proxy
To vote as a proxy, you must:
- Be eligible to vote in the City of Guelph;
- Present the certified proxy form at a voting location; and
- Provide acceptable identification.
A person may act as a proxy for one non-related elector or for more than one immediate family member (spouse, sibling, parent, child, grandparent, or grandchild).
