What’s happening:
As part of the Exhibition Area Phase 1 Reconstruction project, the City of Guelph’s contractor is replacing and upgrading water, wastewater and storm infrastructure. We will also reconstruct the road, curbs and sidewalk, and add in new sidewalk on the west side of Exhibition St, between Wright Crescent and Robertson Drive. Robertson Drive and Verney Street will see watermain upgrades and surface restorations. The work will be broken up in 3 stages as noted below:
Stage 1 – Includes Watermain Replacement work on Robertson Drive, west of Exhibition Street to existing Robertson Drive Booster Pump Station and some temporary watermain work on Verney St. It is anticipated Stage 1 will be completed by December 2026.
Stage 2 – Includes full reconstruction of Exhibition Street from St. Andrew Street to Robertson Drive, including watermain, sanitary and storm sewer replacement. Exhibition Street also includes full restoration of the road, curbs and sidewalks including infill sidewalk on the west side of Exhibition Street between Wright Crescent and Robertson Drive. Stage 2 will also include watermain work on Verney Street and some surface restoration works on Verney Street and Robertson Drive Stage 2 will be completed by November 2027.
Stage 3 – Includes surface paving of Exhibition Street, Verney Street and Robertson Drive. Impacts are expected to be less than 2 weeks in duration and will be completed by June 2028.
Why:
The City is making necessary upgrades and improving infrastructure to support Guelph’s growing population.
When:
We anticipate Stage 1 construction will begin on or around October 13, 2026.
Changes during construction:
Traffic lanes: Robertson Drive will be closed approximately 80m west of Exhibition Street to Exhibition Street. Verney Street will be closed approximately 60m east of Exhibition Street. No through traffic permitted. Local access will be maintained.
Sidewalks: Please expect temporary disruptions and follow the posted signs for safety.
Guelph Transit: No changes.
Waste collection: No changes. Please label your carts with your house number to prevent potential mixing as the contractor will move bins to a designated collection spot and move the carts back after collection.
Private driveway access: Occasionally, some construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property and delays should be expected. The City’s contractor will provide notice of any disruptions that may occur.
