Notice date: October 30, 2026
What’s happening:
The City of Guelph is developing a preliminary design for infrastructure identified within the Clair-Maltby Master Environmental Servicing Plan (OPA 79) to support future growth and development. This includes Sanitary Sewer and Watermain within Gordon Street from Maltby Road East to Claire Road, Claire Road from Victoria Road to Laird Road, and Laird Road from Clair Road West to Highway 6. The Sanitary sewer alignment includes a portion of Southgate Drive and existing City owned land along the East side of Highway 6 to Kortright Road West, also known as the Hanlon dog park.
Why:
The preliminary design requires information about the soil and groundwater to be collected. The work is being completed by Englobe Consultants. This process requires a drill rig to install boreholes and monitoring wells along Gordon Street, Clair Road, Laird Road, Southgate Drive, and Hanlon dog park. Blue drums may be present on site near the drilling locations for a period of approximately one week. These contain the soil and water from the drilled holes and will be collected upon completion of the work.
All monitoring well locations are located on City property, within the road or on private City lands.
When:
Monitoring wells will be installed between November 2 and 9. The duration of work at each location is not anticipated to exceed more than four hours.
Changes during construction:
Traffic lanes: Localized lane reductions may be required at each monitoring well location while work is being completed.
Driveway access: Access to select driveways may be temporarily impacted by the construction equipment or traffic cones. In these instances, the contractor will work with impacted residents to temporarily permit access to/from the driveway, if possible. In some locations, drivers may be required to utilize street parking for the duration of the drilling (approximately four hours).
City services: There will be no interruption to any City services. Waste collection will not be affected. Please continue to place your green, blue and grey carts at the curb, as per your regular schedule.
