The City remains committed to fair and balanced collective bargaining process
Guelph, Ont., August 5, 2026 – While approaching conciliation in good-faith and making some progress through the process, the City of Guelph and the OPSEU/SEFPO Local 231 union representing Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services (GWPS) were unable to reach a negotiated settlement. We are now moving to interest arbitration as the next step in the collective bargaining process.
Paramedics are currently receiving wages representative of their previous collective agreement. Following the conclusion of the current negotiation process, wages will be adjusted to align with the updated collective agreement, including retroactive pay.
Our goal is to remain competitive with our paramedic service comparators while ensuring long-term financial sustainability. The City remains committed to reaching a fair and balanced outcome that recognizes the vital role of our paramedics, supports overall affordability, and is sustainable for taxpayers.
