Culture Days: “The Parade” Exhibition

Carolyn Meili is the City’s 2017 Artist in Residence. Carolyn’s project, “The Parade,” seeks to challenge the traditional off-limits nature of art on display while exploring symbols of Guelph, and by extension Canada, and how they reflect and transform our sense of self. With the help of Guelph’s residents, Carolyn has gathered a visual language of symbols over the course of the residency that represents our community. These symbols have informed the design and construction of wearable sculptures that will be fashioned into an art exhibition, organized in a static, frozen-in-time parade, inside City Hall over Culture Days weekend. Call for artists for City’s 2016 Artist in Residence program

Guelph, Ont., March 2, 2016 – The City of Guelph invites professional artists to submit proposals to be selected for the 2016 City of Guelph Artist in Residence program. Piloted in 2014, this cultural initiative seeks to engage the community in creative experiences and embeds artistic activity in a variety of public spaces. With the aim of strengthening connections between people and the places they share, and drawing inspiration through playful discovery and imaginative exploration, the City’s 2016 Artist in Residence program will develop a project that explores the role of art in urban placemaking.
