West Parkade repairs

2017 to 2018

The West Parkade is undergoing repair work in two phases:

  • Phase 1, summer 2017 to winter 2018: Floors 5 and 6 will be closed.
  • Phase 2, spring 2018 to fall 2018: full parkade closure.

To ensure the safety of patrons and construction workers, and to allow for proper curing of concrete and waterproofing which requires the surfaces to be undisturbed, it is necessary to close the entire parkade during the spring 2018. The City will be working closely with the contractor to find opportunities to shorten the construction schedule.

The spring 2018 closure will result in the loss of 531 parking spaces. Of those, 425 are used by permit holders and 106 are for daily, causal users.

Major downtown employers using the West Parkade for employee parking have cooperatively moved their parking spaces to other downtown lots during the multi-year repair period.

The City has worked with permit holders, the Downtown Advisory Committee, Downtown Guelph Business Association and management for the Old Quebec Street Shoppes to find parking alternatives for the duration of the full parkade closure.
