The City is working to construct an asphalt multi-use path on the north side of Speedvale Avenue West. Work includes the replacement of the existing watermain, construction of a new storm sewer and restoration of the curbs and asphalt in the westbound lanes.
Construction also includes the replacement of a road-crossing culvert at the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Imperial Road.
Sidewalks on Elmira Road North will be extended from their current end point just north of Flaherty Drive to the Speedvale Avenue West intersection.
Construction timeline
Construction is ongoing. Construction works have temporarily stopped for the winter and the road has been reopened.
Construction will resume in April 2023 to complete remaining work in the Imperial Road intersection, and final landscaping and surface asphalt throughout the project.
Construction impacts
The westbound lanes of Speedvale Avenue West will be closed at the beginning of construction. Traffic will be maintained with one lane of traffic in each direction on the current eastbound lanes.
The intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Imperial Road will temporary be closed starting in April 2023 for the replacement of a large culvert, watermain connection, upgrade of traffic signals and final paving.
All construction notices, including timelines and traffic changes, will be posted at guelph.ca/construction and in the Latest updates section below.
Open house
The City hosts open houses to provide detailed project information to interested stakeholders. Open houses notices are posted in the Latest updates section below. Open house materials will be available in this section following the event.
