Morris Street reconstruction

About the project

The project involves the reconstruction of Morris Street between Alice Street and York Road including the replacement / upgrading sanitary sewers, storm sewers, watermain, curb and gutter, sidewalk and asphalt roadway. Reconstruction will be undertaken by J.G. Goetz Construction Limited from Guelph.

Construction starts in June

Reconstruction is expected to start on or about June 29, 2015. The project is expected to be complete in December 2015.  Morris Street will be closed to through traffic to accommodate the reconstruction.

Property access

Access to driveways will be maintained as best as possible during the reconstruction.  There will be times when trenching is being performed or when concrete curb and gutter or sidewalk is being installed across the entrance when vehicular access will be restricted. Such restrictions will be coordinated with the property owner / businesses to minimize the impact.

Service interruptions

Every effort will be made to maintain sanitary sewer and water service to individual properties during the reconstruction.  As services are transferred to the new water and sewer mains, short interruptions (lasting up to a few hours during normal working hours), can be expected.  Advance written notice will be provided prior to any planned service interruption.  In order to maintain water service to individual properties during the reconstruction, a temporary above-ground watermain will be installed. Your property will be connected to the temporary watermain through a temporary connection to your existing underground water service at the property line.

Sanitary sewer and water services

The City will be replacing sanitary sewer and water services within the City’s road allowance.  Service piping on private property is the property owner’s responsibility and it’s up to the property owner to confirm the condition of service piping on private property and to the make necessary arrangements for repair or replacement.  We recommend that you contact a plumbing contractor to check the condition of your service piping.

Recycle, organic and waste collection

Collection of recycle, organic and waste materials will be maintained during the reconstruction. On collection days when access is restricted by construction operations, construction crews will place containers at an accessible location for collection. Please ensure that your address is clearly marked on your containers so they can be returned to you after collection.

Property inspections

CL Inspections may contact you to arrange for an interior/exterior inspection of your home and/or building.  This inspection is a proactive measure intended to assess whether or not a property has any existing damage.  This information will be used to determine the contractor’s responsibility in the unlikely event of property damage during the reconstruction.
