About the project
Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. is rebuilding the overhead electrical distribution system along Edinburgh Road South/North and sections of Waterloo Avenue and Aberdeen, Paisley, Raglan and Sydenham Streets. Work includes replacing poles and conductors. Guelph Hydro customers will be advised in advance of interruptions of electrical service during supply change over.
Construction starts in July
Work will begin July 6, 2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of November, weather permitting.
Lane reductions and detours
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by early September. During this period, the northbound lane and east sidewalk of Edinburgh Road will be completely closed to traffic and pedestrians from Bristol Street to Paisley Street. Northbound Edinburgh Road traffic will detour east at Wellington Street to Gordon Street, then west on Paisley at Norfolk Street to return to Edinburgh Road.
The Edinburgh Road southbound lane and west sidewalk will remain open. Intersections crossing the work zone will remain open to through traffic. Southbound turns onto Edinburgh Road will be permitted from east and west directions. Motorists travelling through any part of the work area, including across intersections, should expect delays.
The second phase of work will begin in early September and run to the end of November. Sections of the northbound lane and east sidewalk of Edinburgh Road will be periodically closed to traffic and pedestrians between Bristol Street to Paisley Street. Road closure updates and detours for this phase of work will be posted as work begins.
Property access and parking
Driveways on both sides of Edinburgh Road between Bristol Street and Paisley Street will be accessible by southbound travel.
Garbage collection will not be affected. Residents living within the road closure should place carts at the curb as normal.
There are no route changes for Guelph Transit. Buses travelling through impacted intersections may experience delays. Any temporary relocation of stops at the intersection of Paisley Street and Edinburgh Road will be signed and posted at guelphtransit.ca.
