Planner I Development – Site Plan Coordinator (Temporary up to 12 Months with possible extension)

Job summary

Resumes are being accepted for the position of Planner 1 Development Site Plan Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager of Development Planning, the successful candidate will coordinate and administer the Site Plan Review Process. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City’s Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.

Hours of work

35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Occasional evening work would be required to attend meetings.

Duties

  • Coordinate and administer the Site Plan Review Process.
  • Assist with the implementation of the City’s urban design efforts.
  • Serve as the main contact for the Site Plan Review Process and Committee.
  • Resolve issues related to individual applications and the overall Site Plan Approval Process in a timely and effective manner.
  • Coordinate inquiries related to the Site Plan approval process.
  • Coordinate and conduct pre-consultation on future site plan applications.
  • Focus on continuous improvement efforts related to the site plan process (eg. updating procedures, requirements and site plan by-law) as required.
  • Maintain site plan approval databases.
  • Provide continuous, excellent, top quality customer service.
  • Act as expert witness at Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT), as required.
  • Engage in public consultation, where required and appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Considerable experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through a degree in Urban and Regional Planning or closely related field with 2-3 years of planning or urban design experience, preferably in a municipal development planning environment. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess a valid Class “G” driver’s licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years.  The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planner’s Institute (OPPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planning (CIP).
  • Knowledge and skills in the application and interpretation of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement (PPS), Provincial Growth Plan and other relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
  • Excellent leadership and negotiation skills with the ability to set priorities, solve problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Ability to provide a solution oriented, customer service approach using good judgement, creativity and strategic thinking.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Experience in computer aided drafting and modeling (i.e. AutoCAD, SketchUp), and AMANDA is an asset.

Rate

$37.75–$46.33 per hour
