Workshop: Help shape the future of Guelph’s commercial spaces
April 18 at 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Join us for a public workshop to evaluate options for commercial development
Shopping and service use patterns are changing in Guelph. The City is undertaking a Commercial Policy Review to update policy direction for commercial spaces to 2041.
This includes refreshing planning objectives, reviewing land use designations, developing contemporary commercial structure guidelines, updating related policies, and providing enough space to allow for the commercial development we expect in Guelph in the future.

Join us for a public workshop to help us evaluate commercial policy options. We’ll use the Council-approved vision and principles the community already helped us develop as a starting point. The feedback we receive will help inform the recommendation of a preferred policy framework to Council.
We have a number of choices for how we can address Guelph’s shopping and service needs. We’ve already identified some issues including a shortage of parcels large enough for larger retail developments such as grocery stores, need for more land for commercial space between 2031 to 2041, community concern with where commercial spaces are located in Guelph, and development industry concerns with the suitability of spaces currently designated for commercial use.
Our workshop will include a presentation and a hands-on opportunity for you to provide feedback on the long-term direction of commercial spaces in Guelph.
Wednesday, April 18
City Hall, 1 Carden Street, Room C
