Are You Interested in Working the Municipal Election?
Are you interested in municipal matters or want to see democracy in action? Join us! We need to hire over 600 people to work at voting locations across Guelph and we hope you’ll be one of them. You can work the advanced polls between October 10-18 and/or Election Day on October 26.
The deadline to submit an application is August 14.
Work at a Guelph Voting Location
The following positions are available at each voting location:
- Managing Officer – the leader in the voting location ($450 per day)
- Revision/Ballot Officer – change voter’s information as needed, verify voter’s information and hand out ballots ($350 per day)
- Tabulator Officer – support voters in casting their ballot ($275 per day)
- Information Officer – the first happy face voters see ($275 per day)
All positions are paid a flat rate per day as listed above, which includes training.

Who Can Work During the Election?
You are eligible if you:
- are at least 16 years of age and eligible to work in Canada
- are not a family member of a candidate in the 2026 City of Guelph municipal and school board election
Election workers must stay politically neutral while performing their duties. Election workers are not permitted to support or oppose any candidate while working and cannot seek nomination or run as a candidate in the election. Outside of their working hours, they may participate in political activities as private citizens.
What Is the Time Commitment?
The time commitment depends on the position and number of voting days worked. For Advanced polls, you will work from approximately 9am to 8pm on average (hours vary by polling location). For Election Day, you will work from 9am to 9pm. Training sessions are mandatory and the approximate length of the session depends on the position:
- Managing Officer: 2 hours
- Revision/Ballot Officer: 3 hours
- Tabulator Officer: 3 hours
- Information Officer: 1 hour
What Experience Do I Need?
While previous election experience is not required, we’re looking for people who have experience working with technology and computers. Training will be provided to all staff in September and October to ensure everyone has what they need. In addition, City Clerk’s Office staff will be ready to support you on voting days.
How Will I Be Paid?
We will provide payment through electronic fund transfer (EFT) after Election Day, October 26.
If you work a minimum of 35 hours or earn $500 or more, you will have Federal and Provincial income tax, Employment Insurance (EI), and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) premiums deducted from your pay. We will only issue a T4 slip if you earn more than $500 or work more than 35 hours.
