Urban Forest Management Plan

Our urban forest includes naturally-occurring and planted trees and shrubs, other vegetation and associated soils on private and public property. A healthy mix of trees and plants can help Guelph withstand and recover from increasingly severe weather caused by climate change.

Guelph’s Urban Forest Management Plan ensures a sustainable urban forest that provides environmental, social, cultural and economic benefits as our community continues to grow.

How the plan works

The plan was developed in 2012 and provides strategic guidance for managing Guelph’s urban forest until 2032.

Every five years, as we implement key recommendations, we evaluate our progress and update our policies and practices as they relate to:

  • The state of the urban forest
  • Work we have completed
  • Work we are still doing
  • Any changes in recommendations
