Construction notice: 100 Steps walkway

Grove Street to Elizabeth Street

Notice updated: January 4, 2021

100 steps now open

The newly reconstructed 100 Steps walkway and staircase re-opened on December 24, 2020, just in time for Christmas. Minor work to finish the project will be completed this spring.

About the project

The City is working with Contractor CSL Group Ltd to remove and replace the 100 Steps walkway between Grove Street and Elizabeth Street.

Work begins July 6

Work is expected to start Monday, July 6 and be complete by the end of December, weather permitting.

Lane reductions

There will be lane reductions on Elizabeth Street at Huron Street, in front of the entrance to the 100 step walkway, during the project. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Please follow posted signs for safety. A full road closure is not expected; however, delays should be expected.

100 Steps closed

The 100 Steps will be closed from Grove Street to Elizabeth Street during the project. There will be no through access either at Grove Street or at Elizabeth Street.

Pedestrian access

The 100 Steps will be closed for public access.

The north sidewalk at Elizabeth Street, by the entrance to the 100 steps, will be closed for construction. Please use the nearby pedestrian crossings to use the south sidewalk.

Property and business access

All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible during construction.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property.

City services

There will be no interruption to any City services during construction. Waste collection will not be affected. Please continue to place your green, blue and grey carts at the curb, as per your regular schedule.

The City appreciates your patience, understanding and co-operation during this important construction project. Any updates will be posted on
