Electronic submissions required for all building permit applications starting January 1, 2020

Guelph, Ont., December 12, 2019—Planning to submit a building permit application? Starting in the new year, all submissions must be submitted electronically.

As of January 1, 2020, building permit applications and requests for inspections must be submitted electronically for residential, industrial, institutional and commercial buildings. You can submit electronic drawings and request inspections online through the Building Services online portal. While drawings and other documents may still be accepted in person at the Building Services counter on the 3rd Floor of City Hall, they must be submitted electronically on a USB device.

About the Building Services online portal

The City introduced the Building Services online portal in 2009 as part of a commitment to making it easy to do business in Guelph. Builders, architects, developers and property owners can use the portal to apply for building permits, submit and receive drawings, track a permit’s status and book inspections. Prior to 2019, the City only accepted electronic submissions for residential permit applications. In January 2019, the City began accepting electronic permit applications for industrial, commercial and institutional projects.
