Metrolinx overnight work and road closure at Yorkshire railway crossing October 18-21

Notice posted by the City of Guelph on behalf of Metrolinx on October 10, 2019

Metrolinx has begun maintenance along the rail corridor passing through Georgetown to Kitchener to expand and improve service on GO Transit’s Kitchener line. Starting October 18 Metrolinx will begin work on the Yorkshire Railway Crossing.

Yorkshire will be closed nightly October 18-21

Work to remove and replace existing track will need to be completed overnight, while rail traffic is lighter. Weather permitting the work will be completed between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., October 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2019. The road at Yorkshire will be closed during those times.

What this means for you

Residents may notice noise from the machinery and some ambient light from the site. The use of back-up beepers, a vital safety measure, will be limited to essential work only. Lights will be pointed away from residential areas.

Improving GO service means upgrading existing infrastructure to increase speeds and ensure the safety of trains travelling through the Guelph community. As this work continues you may notice the presence of maintenance crews along the corridor.

Thank you for your patience while Metrolinx improves transit to get communities moving.
