City upgrading to LED streetlights throughout Guelph starting early October

The City will upgrade nearly 13,000 non-decorative streetlights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs throughout Guelph starting early October and is expected to be finished by the summer of 2020.

Alectra Power Services Inc. has been hired to take on the light installations and will take place during regular working hours (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.).

Traffic and pedestrian sidewalks

Installations crews may block single road lanes and/or pedestrian sidewalks to perform the upgrades depending on location. Please be alert when driving and/or using pedestrian sidewalks when approaching work areas, which will be clearly identified.

About the project

The upgrade comes as part of the Council approved decision to switch over Guelph’s non-decorative street lights to LED bulbs and adding adaptive controls to use less electricity, save money, reduce maintenance, and improve street lighting conditions.
