Temporary trail closure: Downtown Trail/TransCanada Trail alongside Goldie Mill Park

Guelph, Ont., August 27, 2019 – Part of the Downtown Trail/TransCanada Trail that runs past Goldie Mill Park will be closed for restoration work starting August 27 until further notice.

Crews will complete restoration work at the park and on surrounding property. Other areas of the park remain open to the public while the trail is closed. People walking and riding bikes should use Cardigan Street as a detour around the closed area of the trail.

Parts of the ruins are also being restored this year. The site is expected to fully re-open in 2020 or 2021.

About the project

The City has been working towards remediation of Goldie Mill Park and ruins to ensure the area is safe for public use. Remediation work is part of the City’s plan to address soil condition and sinkholes in the park. The Grand River Conservation Authority owns the park which is managed by the City.
