Guelph, Ont., May 16, 2019 – You’re invited to attend one of two open houses as we show how the community’s feedback, to date, has influenced the evolution of the Baker District redevelopment project.
The open houses are on Wednesday, May 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Co-operators Hall and Canada Company Hall (respectively) at River Run Centre, 35 Woolwich Street. Both sessions are the same, with a short presentation at 2:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
The open house and presentation focus on the north block of the redevelopment area, including the new central library and urban square design. You’ll also have an opportunity to see how the redevelopment’s sustainability goals have progressed since the January 15 public workshop.
Come talk with City staff and members of the Windmill Development Group and Invizij teams about the project, and let us know if the library and urban square design reflects feedback you’ve provided so far.
Specifically, we’re asking:
- Does the library program provide the types of services you expect from a central library?
- Does the urban square provide the types of experiences you expect from a civic space?
- Does the sustainability plan reflect your green goals and ambitions for Baker District?
Workshop content will be posted online at haveyoursay.guelph.ca by May 31 with an opportunity to provide comments.
About the project
The Baker District redevelopment is a City of Guelph project aimed at transforming the existing parking lot and properties fronting the north end of Wyndham Street into a unique mixed-use development, which includes:
- New central library (Guelph Public Library)
- Public parking
- Urban square
The Downtown Secondary Plan envisions the district becoming a model of urban intensification that drives visitors to the downtown and encourages business to thrive within its boundaries by combining residential and commercial/institutional spaces. The project also includes public parking and an urban square.
