Construction notice: Speedvale Avenue East reconstruction

Woolwich Street to Stevenson Street

Alectra Utilities formerly Guelph Hydro will be rebuilding the electrical distribution system along Speedvale Avenue East from Woolwich Street to Stevenson Street North.

Overhead work is scheduled and to be completed by December 2019. Alectra Utilities will be replacing the poles, anchors and conductors on both sides of Speedvale Avenue East. An interruption of your electrical service may be required to change it over to the new supply, but you will be contacted in advance.

This work is required as part of the on-going efforts to replace the City’s aging infrastructure to meet the needs of current and future residents.

Construction starting April 8

Work is expected to begin on Speedvale Avenues the week of April 8, weather permitting. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Weekend work may be required to complete the work.

Lane reductions

Lane reductions along Speedvale Avenue will occur throughout the project. Expect delays.

Pedestrian access

Sidewalks will be maintained during construction. However, access may be restricted. Signage will be posted to direct pedestrians around the construction site as required.

Tree removals

It is expected that tree trimming will be necessary in some areas to maintain safe clearances from overhead power lines. Asplundh Canada ULC, a certified utility arborist, will be responsible for tree trimming according to industry standards.

Property access

Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways during construction working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property and delays should be expected.

City services

There will be no interruption to any City services during construction. Waste collection will not be affected. Please continue to place your green, blue and grey carts at the curb, as per your regular schedule.
