Guelph, Ont., April 29, 2019 – A record number of parks, trails and green spaces were cleared of 3,300 kilograms during Clean and Green this past Saturday—an amount almost as heavy as a hippopotamus.
“We broke the record this year for the amount of area our volunteers covered. Together, we cleaned 78 parks, and 35 trails and roadways,” says Dave Beaton, program manager of trails and natural area stewardship with the City of Guelph. “Nearly every park in our community is clear of garbage!”
The community clean up drew 1,231 volunteers, about 100 more than a usual season. A barbeque at Riverside Park was held to thank the volunteers and community sponsors.
About Clean and Green
Every year, Guelph residents come together to participate in Clean and Green, a volunteer, community clean up initiative. Thousands of kilograms of garbage are removed from roads, trails, parks and neighbourhoods to beautify our city and protect our drinking water and wildlife.
