Guelph, Ontario., January 24, 2018—The City has released the proposed 2019 tax supported operating budget to City Council and the community.

The proposed 2019 tax supported operating budget is presented with a 3.93 per cent increase over 2018 at a total of $243,330,620. This budget focuses on the programs and services residents and business owners pay for through property taxes such as waste collection, road maintenance, recreation programs, and emergency services.

“The proposed tax supported operating budget takes into consideration the cost of delivering services at a standard that is expected and deserved by our community, while incorporating pressures from other levels of government, legislative requirements and moving us towards Council’s vision for our city,” said Derrick Thomson, chief administrative officer for the City of Guelph.

The proposed 2019 tax supported operating budget will be presented to Council on February 7, with delegations scheduled for February 20, and Council deliberation and approval on March 5.

“I am confident that the proposed tax supported budget before Council is fiscally responsible, strategic, and showcases staff’s dedication to deliver excellent services and manage costs,” said Trevor Lee, deputy Cheif Administrative Office (CAO), Corporate Services.

Today’s release is the third of four budgets to be considered by Council. The local boards and shared services budget will be released on January 31.
