Notice: Logan well maintenance and repairs

Notice date: November 5, 2018

The City of Guelph will be performing maintenance and construction activities on the City-owned Logan well site at 5206 Jones Baseline. The Logan well property, which contains the Logan well and an exploratory well, is located on the southwest side of Eastview Road and Jones Baseline approximately 1.5 kilometres east of Watson Road. The land is primarily a vacant, naturalized woodlot. The wells were constructed by the City in the 1960’s. Maintenance and repair work will be conducted on the wells on the property. Maintenance of wells is a requirement of Ontario Regulation 903 (Wells).

Activity on the site will start approximately November 12 and take about six weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The following activities will be performed on site:

  • Tree trimming and removal close to the well infrastructure (Logan well and exploratory well) to provide a safe access route,
  • Inspection and cleaning of well infrastructure,
  • Construction to upgrade the existing exploratory well to a monitoring well, and
  • Groundwater testing, sampling and analysis.

All work will be conducted in compliance with Ontario Regulation 903. All efforts will be made to keep noise and other disruptions as minimal as possible.

This work is part of the City of Guelph well maintenance program. Results of the work will be used to determine if the wells should be retained for future use, converted to monitoring wells or decommissioned.

The City appreciates your patience, understanding and co-operation during this project.
