Demolition scheduled for City-owned house on Emma Street

Guelph, Ont., November 19, 2018 – The City has contracted Kieswetter Demolition Inc. to demolish a City-owned house at 95 Emma Street. The vacant, one-story house is located next to the City’s Emma Street water well between Pleasant Road and Metcalfe Street.

The contractor has begun demolition preparations. Union Gas will disconnect gas to the house on November 20, and the demolition should be complete by the end of December.

The contractor must remove all shrubs, undergrowth and tree branches within 1.5 metres of the building. All other trees on the property will remain.

The house has been vacant for about five years and was previously used as a single-family dwelling. It is in need of major repairs, greater than the value of the structure. To ensure staff and public safety, the City will demolish the structure.

The house is not designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and is not listed in the City of Guelph’s Municipal Register of Cultural Heritage Properties.
