Remembrance Day in Guelph

Guelph, Ont, October 29, 2018 – On Remembrance Day, the community is invited to honour veterans and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in service to Canada.

A list of Remembrance Day services and other Remembrance activities can be found at guelph.ca/remembrance.

Remembrance Day services are organized by the Royal Canadian Legion Colonel John McCrae Memorial Branch 234 and Ladies Auxiliary.

On Sunday, November 11, the City’s largest Remembrance Day service takes place at the Sleeman Centre. Doors open at 9 a.m., and the service begins at 10:10 a.m. sharp.

A brief Remembrance Day service takes place at Colonel John McCrae House at 9 a.m.

An outdoor service is held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in the veterans’ area from 10:30 to 11:30.

Guelph Transit

Guelph Transit will provide regular Sunday service on Remembrance Day. At 11 a.m., all buses will stop at safe points on each route and pause for two minutes to honour Canada’s veterans. Guelph Transit is offering extended Legion service: the Route 4 York Road bus will stop in the Royal Canadian Legion’s parking lot from 9:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Hours of operation

City services such as transit and recreational programming will operate as usual on Sunday, November 11.

All City facilities will be open on Monday, November 12, except for the Ontario Court of Justice—Provincial Offences Court.

There is no change to the waste collection schedule for the week of November 12.

How the City honours veterans

All flags at City facilities will be flown at half-mast on November 11 in honour of Remembrance Day.

The City is pleased to host and support the Legion’s annual ceremonies at McCrae House and the Sleeman Centre, as well as the parade. Guelph’s Fire and Emergency Services staff proudly participate in Remembrance Day ceremonies at McCrae House, the Sleeman Centre, and Woodlawn Memorial Park; lay wreaths at the Cenotaph; and take part in the Remembrance Day parade, including an Honour Guard.

The City offers an annual transit and parking pass for Guelph veterans that provides free access to transit service and parking at select lots in Guelph.
