Dates: September 20 and 22, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Location: Royal City Park area (Gordon Street)
Purpose: To conduct trail user counts and survey users regarding the Gordon Street trail crossing
The City of Guelph will be conducting counts and surveying local trail users to gain insight on how people are crossing Gordon Street in the vicinity of the Boathouse/Royal City Park as part of the recommendations in the Active Transportation Network Study approved by Council in September 2017.
Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited, a consultant of the City, is conducting both the counts and the surveys.
Counts are being collected using a video device called Scout by Miovision which films a section of trail but does not permit individuals to be identifiable. Filming will take place over a 12–hour period beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m. on September 20 and 22, 2018. During this time, all City trails will remain accessible. Footage will be used to count the number of trail users and to identify trail use activities.
On-site surveys in the area will begin on September 20, 2018. The survey collects information including the number of users, types of use, distance traveled and purpose of travel, as well as user opinions about current trail systems. Survey participation is voluntary.
The City will use the information from the video data collection and surveys to inform recommendations to improve the Gordon Street trail crossings between Wellington Street and Water Street. All individual survey responses and film footage will be kept confidential and will be used for further program development and optimization only.
Personal information, as defined by Section 2 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (MFIPPA) is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001, and in accordance with the provisions of the MFIPPA.
