UPDATED Construction notice: Rail bridge construction at Wellington Street and Macdonell Street starts September 17

UPDATE: Timing of the closures will be shorted than anticipated. Those timelines have been adjusted in the notice below.

About the project

Metrolinx is undertaking maintenance/rehabilitation work on the Allan’s Bridge along Macdonell Street.  This work will require closures of Arthur Street, Elizabeth Street and Wellington Street under the bridge. Closures of each road will be done in stages.  Work is being completed by Genesee & Wyoming Canada Inc.

Construction starts September 17

Construction to the rail bridge will start on or about September 17 and last for about three weeks, weather permitting.

Wellington Street, Macdonell Street, Arthur Street and Elizabeth Street will each be closed in stages

Arthur Street South at Macdonell Street will be closed from September 17 to 18. Elizabeth Street at Macdonell Street will be closed from September 18 to 19. The right hand turn lane at Wellington Street East will be closed from September 24 to 25. Wellington Street East at Macdonell Street will be closed from September 26 to 27 and October 1 to 3.

During these closures, road users should follow the detour signs to go around the work.

Pedestrian access

Pedestrians should follow signs in the construction area.

Property and business access and parking

All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible throughout construction.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.) Construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property and delays should be expected.

Guelph Transit

Guelph Transit Routes 4, 14, 40 and 41 will be impacted during construction. Visit guelphtransit.ca for information about stop changes and route detours.
