Niska Road to City limits
About the project
The City is starting construction of the new Niska Road Bridge. Work will be completed by Sierra Bridge out of Woodstock Ontario.
The City of Guelph initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to investigate opportunities to improve Niska Road from Ptarmigan Drive to the City limits. The EA was completed in December 2015. Some of the recommendations included reconstructing Niska Road from Ptarmigan Drive to the City limits and reconstructing the Niska Road bridge as a two-lane crossing with considerations made for pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction of the bridge starts September 10
Construction will start the week of September 10 and continue throughout the winter to be completed June of 2019, weather permitting. Following the bridge construction, the road contractor will complete the construction of Niska Road which is expected to be completed by early fall 2019.
Niska Road will remain closed throughout construction
Niska Road remains closed from Pioneer Trail to the City limits to allow for construction.
Pedestrian access is permitted to the multi-use path
Pedestrian access will generally be permitted along the newly created multi-use path to allow for viewing of the construction for the majority of the construction, however, where safety is of concern, pedestrian access will be restricted at the discretion of the contractor.
