Update – September 7, 2018: Recent hot weather is impacting sandblasting activities, requiring sandblasting work to continue into the week of September 10. There will be no sandblasting on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Quieter construction activities, such as painting and electrical work, will take place on the weekend.
Notice date: August 30, 2018
The City is continuing with the planned maintenance at the Verney water tower consisting of removing the existing coating of paint and repainting the interior and exterior of the tank, upgrading the tower safety systems and installing new pipes and valves.
In our previous notice (dated Aug 10, 2018), we indicated that the construction for the project is expected to be complete by early November 2018. This update will provide an updated timeline for specific work activities.
Sandblasting on the tank exterior has been underway since mid-August. This phase of the work is expected to be completed by Friday, September 7, barring weather or unexpected events. During this work, the tower is completely enclosed by a tarping system with a negative ventilation system and filters that are designed to capture all dust during sandblasting. Results from air monitoring indicate there are no emissions from these activities. After sandblasting is complete, you should notice a significant decrease in noise levels from the work on site.
The crew will then apply paint until mid to late September. Once the painting is complete, the scaffolding will be dismantled and removed over an estimated five (5) week period. At the same time as the painting is underway, the contractor will construct a valve chamber that will provide the City with additional security and functionality in the water distribution system.
The City understands that this work has been disruptive to the surrounding community and appreciates your patience, understanding and co-operation during this very important project.
The work is being completed by BGL Contractors Corp. All upgrades are on track to be complete in early November.
