Guelph Track Improvements: Imperial Road to Edinburgh Road
Metrolinx has begun a multi-year construction program to expand and improve service on GO Transit’s Kitchener line. Improving GO service means upgrading existing infrastructure to increase speeds and ensure the safety of trains travelling through the Guelph Subdivision. The first phase of work, which started in April, is still underway. You have probably noticed that we are clearing vegetation from the corridor and installing and upgrading fencing.
The next phase and what this means for you
While we do our best to complete track maintenance during the day, on occasion we require some overnight work, to be completed while rail traffic is lighter. Weather permitting; the next phase requires overnight work, to be conducted between August 3 and 8, 2018.
On these dates residents may notice noise from the machinery and some ambient light from the site. The volume, frequency, and pitch of back-up beepers are regulated by law and cannot be altered, as they act as a vital safety measure. Their use will be limited to essential work only. We will also mitigate any light necessary by pointing away from residential areas.
Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario, is building a seamless, convenient and integrated transit network across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Over the next ten years, Metrolinx will transform the existing GO rail system to deliver a whole new rapid transit experience to your community. With more frequent train service you’ll have more options to get you where you need to go.
Thank you for your patience while we improve transit to get communities moving.
