Fuel tank replacement at 45 Municipal Street starts July 30

Municipal Street and Denver Road

Guelph, Ont., July 23, 2018 – The City is working with GHD Ltd. to remove an underground fuel tank at 45 Municipal Street, the property that houses the City’s fleet of vehicles. The tank is being replaced as a part of the City’s 25-year life cycle replacement schedule.

The fuel tanks will be replaced with above-ground fuel pumps that offer improved environmental monitoring, including:

  • Better visibility of the tanks’ physical and structural condition
  • Improved leak detection
  • Easier replacement in the future

Keeping the fuel tanks on-site also allows the City to purchase fuel in bulk at a lower cost and keep fuel accessible to staff operating most of the City’s vehicles.

Fuel tank replacement starts on July 30

Replacement of the fuel tank starts on July 30 and will finish December, weather permitting. Construction will take place during working hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Property and business access for contractors

All access to the Operations yard by contractors and vendors will be maintained throughout the replacement.

The City appreciates your patience, understanding and co-operation during this important construction project.
