Construction notice: East Parkade lighting upgrade and stairwell repair begins July 3

About the project

Scheduled lighting upgrade work on all levels including the roof of the East Parkade will begin on July 3, 2018.

The lighting upgrade will replace the existing lighting with high-efficiency LED lighting on all levels of the parkade. The City will also install new exit signage.

The new LED lighting provides brighter, cleaner light quality, further extending the City’s commitment to finding environmentally friendly solutions as we renovate City facilities.

Crews will also be repairing two of the parkade’s stairwells which will require the full closure of each stairwell, beginning with the North West stairwell. Only one stairwell will be closed at a time.

It is expected that the work will be completed by late summer 2018.

Work to begin July 3

Construction is expected to begin on July 3, 2018 and continue for approximately two months.

Parking restrictions

Parking spaces will be blocked off on systematic basis to allow crews to replace the lights; however, access to all levels of the parkade will be maintained. There will be no restriction to the surface lot for daily public use.

Pedestrian access

Pedestrian access to the parkade will be maintained; however, access to the stairwells will be restricted during the repair work. Only one stairwell will be closed at a time giving pedestrian access to the remaining three stairwells. Pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution in the construction area and follow signage and instructions to ensure their safety at all times.
