Construction on Wilson Street complete by November 17

Snow and rain continue to impact construction progress on Wilson Street. The street will remain closed to vehicle traffic from Gordon Street to Macdonell Street. The street is expected to be open Friday, November 17, weather permitting.

The detour route during construction is along Norfolk Street and Macdonell Street.

Pedestrian access along Wilson Street

The sidewalks on both sides of Wilson Street are complete and accessible.

All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible throughout construction.

Wilson Street parking lot is open

The Wilson Street parking lot is open. The parking lot is accessible from Carden Street.

Guelph Transit

Guelph Transit route 5, 8 and 9 continue to be temporarily detoured during construction. Visit guelphtransit.ca for information about bus stop changes and route detours.

City services

There will is no interruption to City services during construction. Waste collection is not affected. Please continue to place your green, blue and grey carts at the curb, as per your regular schedule. Construction staff will move waste carts to a location where collection can occur. Please ensure that the street address is clearly marked on your waste carts so they can be returned to the proper address.

About the project

The City is working with Drexler Construction to upgrade underground water and sewer pipes on Wilson Street from Northumberland Street to Macdonell Street. The work also includes the replacement of curb and gutter, sidewalks, landscaping, paver brick and surface finishes identified in the Downtown Streetscape Manual as well as the installation of a pedestrian island on Macdonell Street.

This work is part of the Wilson Street reconstruction and parkade project.
