Council unanimously approves development of Community Plan for Guelph
Guelph, Ont., July 24, 2017 – Guelph City Council received its first update on the City’s progress on implementing the Corporate Administrative Plan (CAP), introduced in September 2016, and further progress towards the Council Shared Agenda (CSA), introduced in 2015.
The full CAP and CSA updates can be seen in the Council report. This report is the beginning of a program of improved corporate performance reporting and continuous improvement practices that will result in increased accountability to citizens and better results.
“On behalf of Council, I’m very pleased to see the integration of the Corporate Administrative Plan and Council Shared Agenda,” said Mayor Cam Guthrie. “Over the past year we’ve made tremendous progress on multiple fronts. I’m looking forward to increased public reporting while working with staff and the rest of Council as we develop a forward-looking Community Plan for Guelph.”
“We’ve made significant headway towards accomplishing our priorities,” said the City’s chief administrative officer, Derrick Thomson. “And I’m excited to be reporting publicly on our progress, challenges and plans to build on our momentum.”
Council also unanimously approved the development of a Community Plan for Guelph with a year-long engagement process and Plan development to be conducted by the new term of Council.
“Guelph has a diverse, knowledge based economy; a strong downtown and real estate market; low unemployment and robust jobs growth,” continued Thomson. “The question is what’s next? And how do we continue to build on Guelph’s position in the Toronto to Waterloo Innovation Corridor? A Community Plan will articulate shared community priorities. It will identify gaps and opportunities and ways to address them together with our citizens, business leaders and stakeholders.”
