City initiates business service reviews

Solid Waste Resources review under way

Guelph, Ont., March 30, 2017 – The City of Guelph began implementation of the Council approved business service review framework  on January 11, 2017 with a review of Solid Waste Resources (SWR).

The purpose of the business service reviews is to assess what services the City should be delivering, at what level or standard, and how best to provide those services.

“We are reviewing Solid Waste Resources to look at the current level of service, service costs, what we do well and what, if anything, needs to change,” explains Katherine Gray, program manager of Business Process Management. “The review studies the scope, effectiveness and efficiency of our waste services to make sure they best reflect our citizens’ needs from a social, environmental, cultural and cost perspective.”

Part of the SWR business service review includes examining information about Guelph’s current waste services, data from comparable municipalities as well as staff and public feedback before making a final recommendation.

Public feedback will help ensure Guelph’s solid waste services meet the community’s needs and values. Dates and details about opportunities for public involvement will be shared as they become available.

An interim report with proposed recommendations will be presented to City Council in September, the final report with service delivery recommendations will go to Council in November, and an implementation report will go to Council in January 2018.

The City is planning to review all City services using the business service review framework. Later this year, work will begin on the review of City boulevard maintenance and Guelph Transit. The City is also currently reviewing internal services, starting with its Information Technology (IT) Service Desk.
