Small business advocate creates ground floor space, services for entrepreneurs

Guelph, Ont., November 30, 2016 – Today, the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington celebrates its move to 14 Macdonell Street (the former Guelph Mercury building) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. Previously located on the fourth floor of 42 Wyndham Street North, the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington’s new ground floor location is now easily accessible to new business owners and young entrepreneurs.

“The future of new business development depends on our community’s ability to support new business owners, as they start and grow their business,” says Marios Matsias, Executive Director, Business Centre Guelph Wellington. “The Business Centre is here to provide the entry point for entrepreneurship— helping individuals go into business for themselves. The Business Centre Guelph Wellington adds to the wealth of our community, one business at a time.”

The new 3,500 square foot location includes space for workshops that connect new business owners with experienced business entrepreneurs to exchange information and best practices.  The larger footprint also offers state of the art meeting facilities for clients to access unique forums at the centre.

“The Business Centre for Guelph Wellington is an important partner of the City of Guelph, their programs provide entrepreneurs with the training, coaching and mentorship they need to kick start their business,” says Barbara Maly, Manager, Economic Development, City of Guelph. “Their programs help support Guelph’s position as one of Canada’s best places to start and grow a business.”

“The Business Centre Guelph-Wellington is a valuable resource to Wellington County entrepreneurs looking to start or grow their business. We congratulate the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington on this new phase as we work towards supporting business together,” says Crystal Ellis, Manager of Economic Development, County of Wellington.

In 2016, the local business centre provided services to 68,000 individuals, counselled 4,300 Guelph and area residents considering starting a new business and started 100 new businesses and 110 new jobs in the community.
