October 28, 2016 – The Guelph Police Service headquarters renovation is tracking three weeks behind schedule, according to the general contractor.
Why this project is behind schedule
The delay in construction progress is a result of unknown site conditions and the weather. Here are the details:
- The topographical survey undertaken for the project did not detect a crucial telephone line. As a result, the excavation process was delayed to accommodate relocating the line.
- The general contractor has documented the loss of eight days of construction time due to weather conditions.
What we’re doing to get the timeline back on track
We continue to work closely with the contract administrator and the general contractor to find opportunities to bring the current schedule as close as possible to the original. In fact, we meet each week to discuss the status of the project, identify potential construction challenges and work together on mitigation strategies.
We anticipate a portion of this time can be recouped by the general contractor as other construction work over the course of the three year project may take less time than expected to complete.
Our new project management processes ensures budget, schedule and scope changes are addressed, reported and communicated.
