The City of Guelph and the Guelph Professional Firefighters Association (GPFFA) have been in collective bargaining aimed at reaching a collective agreement since February 2015,. Through the course of bargaining, the parties have met 11 times, including one meeting with the presence and assistance of a provincially appointed conciliation officer, and one meeting with a mediator.
Unfortunately we have been unable to reach a collective agreement. This means that the next step in the process is to go to interest arbitration. This process will provide the bargaining teams for both the City and the Association the opportunity to present their proposals and have an arbitration board ultimately determine the terms of the new collective agreement based on the submissions of the two parties.
The City’s proposals will be aimed at reaching a collective agreement that respects the important job that our Fire Department staff does while balancing the need for sustainability for our taxpayers and fairness with our other employee groups.
