Guelph, Ont., March 3, 2016—Beginning Wednesday, March 9, engineering consultants and contractors hired by the City of Guelph will be working along Fountain Street adjacent to the Fountain Street parking lot, and on Wyndham Street between Fountain Street and Surrey Street. The City will also be working on the Union Gas property on Surrey Street near Gordon Street.
The City is conducting environmental investigations around the site of the historical coal gasification plant on Fountain Street and is installing wells and soil vapour probes for ongoing environmental monitoring. Work is being carried out by GHD Ltd. and their subcontractors.
Drilling is expected to occur over a two week period, with contractors returning to take samples from monitoring wells on a periodic basis. All wells and holes are being drilled on public (City of Guelph) property.
There are no road closures associated with the work. Traffic should drive with care around work areas adjacent to roads.
Sidewalk access on the south side of Fountain Street and the west side of Wyndham Street will be closed temporarily while the work is completed. Pedestrians will be directed to use sidewalks on the opposite side of these roads during the temporary closures.
